After spending 30 years exploring the world’s beaches, surfing the waves of every ocean and discovering some truly amazing places, I’ve been forced to watch the environmental tragedy unfolding before our eyes. What I have seen at first hand has convinced me that the deterioration of our oceans is today in no doubt.
Over the years, I’ve seen the beaches and the seas devastated by pollution but also met local people directly affected by this scourge, which is today joined by the added problems of global warming and rising sea levels.
It soon became impossible for me to derive the same pleasure from the sea when almost every beach is a visible cry for help from the ocean.
For me, the decisive moment came during my last trip surfing Greenbush in the Mentawai Islands, when I became totally aware of this paradox, which stood out so starkly in such a beautiful setting.
I realised that we need to act, to react, to be a force for progress and to create a project with a common “green” theme, with three priorities: the Environment, Health and Protection.
This is the background to the creation of the Greenbush brand.
We have created a sun care line without chemical filters, a natural, mineral-based product which preserves the oceans and particularly the coral; accompanied by stainless steel bottles to stop this excess consumption of plastic bottles which are piling up on the beaches and in the seas.
GREENBUSH SPF 50+ sun stick, offers maximum and long-term protection for the most sensitive skin, prone to sunburn and intolerant to chemical filters.
Because the maintenance of biodiversity is essential, GREENBUSH sunscreens are composed only of mineral filters that protects coral.
In fact, over the last 30 years, 30% of coral reefs have been irretrievably lost. However, these are essential for the survival of the marine eco-system, since 25% of marine species live in close dependence on coral.
Chemical filters, scattered in the sea when we surf or swim, are very toxic to the algae on which the survival of the corals depends.
The widespread use of sunscreen chemicals causes a phenomenon of coral bleaching, synonymous with death.
Every year, 15,000 tons of sunscreens pour into the oceans and chemical filters destroy corals in less than 48 hours.
GREENBUSH is composed of a mineral screen, stable and effective over time, offering high tolerance and optimal protection against UVB AND UVA (short and long).

Every minute 1 million plastic bottles are disposed of in the world.
The UN has issued a warning about ocean pollution, citing a global crisis.
No less than 8.8 million tons of plastic are thrown into the sea each year, according to the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
An American study is no more reassuring: more than 9.1 billion tons of plastics have so far been produced worldwide, most of which ends up in landfills or in the ocean.
A plastic bottle takes hundreds of years to break down, while the toughest plastics can take thousands of years. According to Erik Solheim, head of the UN Environment Agency (UNEP), urgent action is needed to ensure that oceans do not turn into a heap of plastic.
“By 2050, there will be more plastic in the seas than fish.” In addition, plastic bottles can harm our health if they are not used properly. A study carried out by researchers at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, in January 2008, showed that some plastic bottles release Bisphenol A (BPA), mostly because of heat. This very toxic chemical is responsible for several disorders such as growth, digestion or brain development problems. This is particularly harmful for children and pregnant women. Even if the low level of BPA present in plastic bottles is harmless, exposure to 70 degrees is enough to be harmful. It is therefore strongly discouraged to store hot or boiling drinks in plastic containers.
Reusing bottles can also be dangerous: this practice actually presents significant problems in terms of hygiene, as the various manipulations necessary for filling lead contaminate the inside of the bottle. Contamination is particularly significant if the bottle is also a container which is drunk from the neck. The microbiological risk, the development and transmission of bacteria and microbes is favored by stagnant water and handling the bottle with sometimes moderately clean hands.
To stop contributing to this overconsumption of waste, to risk your health on a daily basis with unreliable ingredients, it is better to use a reusable bottle that will last you forever, or almost: opt for a stainless-steel bottle! We have created thick stainless-steel insulated bottles that keep drinks hot for 12 hours and cold for 24 hours.
