An instant classic, the Big Baron is inspired by the mid-lengths that previous generations surfed on the famous point breaks of the Gold Coast. This classic base is combined with a more modern bottom, a twin fin setup, then completed with a well-tucked-in round tail for more grip. Because on this board, you're going to generate a lot of speed and engage the rails — intensely.
Its overall flat rocker allows for creating and maintaining speed even in the weakest conditions. The vee present along its entire length, from nose to tail, combined with a double concave under the fins, facilitates rail-to-rail transitions while maintaining excellent maneuverability.
The outline generously distributes volume, with relatively low rails that allow for high-speed turns. The Big Baron excels in playful conditions, from knee-high to slightly overhead. While short, hollow waves are not its preferred playground, it offers excellent paddling power and speed control ideal in quality, longer waves.
On point breaks, reefs, or stretched-out beach breaks, the Big Baron takes the pressure off and allows you to enjoy the downtime between turns, barrels, or sections that other boards struggle to connect.
As a bonus, surfing the Big Baron naturally smooths out your surfing and transfers almost immediately to shorter, more performance-oriented boards — the ones most of us dream of taking out when conditions (and desire) align.
The Big Baron is designed to give a lot and ask for little in return: more time to position yourself and adjust your lines, an earlier and easier entry when paddling, and the ability to go further and stay in the water longer, no matter the waves on offer.
*Recommended fins – JS Twin Fin for Futures boxes or FCS II Power Twin (both illustrated).
