A RETURN TO THE GOLDEN AGE.
Among Parko's all-time favorite boards, the original Golden Child became Joel's number one after the original Forget Me Not cracked in overpowering Kirra during the 2009 Quiksilver Pro semifinals. His very first heat with the Golden Child was the final—which he won—before going on to win at Bells and J-Bay.
Whenever conditions allowed that year, the Golden Child came out, and the result was always the same: Joel never lost a single heat. The board was eventually hung on the wall of our Kirra factory like a trophy, a symbol of the pinnacle of fast, instinctive, powerful surfing.
The Golden Child is based on the original 2009 file, enhanced with modern 2024 influences on the deck roll and rails. It surfs approximately 1 to 2 inches longer than your usual everyday shortboard, with either the same width or 1/8” narrower.
Overall, it features a flatter vee deck compared to the domed deck of our modern good wave boards like the Schooner or the FMN3. This brings you closer to the water for maximum feel and instant response.
The Golden Child also has less concave than the Monsta, offering more grip, complemented by a narrower nose and tail outline for better control in critical sections. All these features combine to create a model designed for rail surfing, capable of cutting through the water like a hot knife through butter.
